Biography

Dr. Vanston is a popular speaker on the subject of the future of telecommunications and its significance to organizations and people. He provides valid forecasts of future developments in the telecom industry and examines the driving forces behind these developments and their implications. An internationally recognized authority in the use of technology forecasting in the telecommunications industry, his research reports and forecasts are used and referenced extensively by telecom managers and professionals worldwide.

Since 1985, Dr. Vanston has been the director and principal author of a number of ongoing reports commissioned by the Telecommunications Technology Forecasting Group (TTFG). Topics have included Internet access requirements, xDSL technologies, ATM switching, fiber optics, video services, and wireless communications. He is also frequently called to testify before state and federal regulatory commissions.

Some of the prestigious presentations and keynotes he has made include the Brazil Telecom Summit, the Pacific Telecommunications Conference, the International Engineering Consortium's ComForum, SUPERCOMM, the Brazil Telecom Summit, and USTA's Capitol Recovery Seminar. Dr. Vanston was honored as Outstanding Speaker of the Year by attendees of the 11th Annual International Communications Forecasting Conference.

The September 21, 1998 issue of The Wall Street Journal featured an in-depth interview entitled "Consultant's Call: Lawrence Vanston Makes Some Pretty Bold Predictions for the Future of Telecommunications. He Has Been Right Before." Notably, the predictions therein have likewise come true.

Biography

Dr. John Vanston is an internationally-renowned consultant, educator, speaker, and author in the fields of technology forecasting, technology/market integration, and technology management in uncertain environments. His presentations and workshops provide audiences with an understanding of the technology development process, teaches participants to conduct valid technology/market forecasts, and shows how to utilize these forecasts to identify and evaluate emerging market needs and improve organizational planning.

Dr. Vanston founded Technology Futures, Inc. (TFI) in 1978, and served as its president for 14 years, building the Austin, Texas-based company into a leader in the technology forecasting, planning, and management fields. During his career at TFI, Dr. Vanston has conducted research, consulting, and education projects for a wide range of commercial, government, and academic organizations, including, among many others, Chevron Chemical, Kodak, Boeing, Nortel, National Security Agency, National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and the Texas State Technical College System. He is the primary architect of TFI's Five Views of the Future™ Strategic Framework and the Technology Advantage Management™ concept.

Dr. Vanston regularly conducts workshops and seminars all over the world including recent presentations at the Industrial Research Institute, the Association of Strategic Planners, the Winstead Colloquium on, and the Futures Studies Program at the University of Houston at Clearlake. A respected writer, Dr. Vanston has also authored or coauthored several books including among others Innovate! Straight Path to Quality, Customer Delight, and Competitive Advantage; Technology Forecasting: An Aid to Effective Technology Management; and Introduction to Technology Market Forecasting.
